A successful moving day starts with preparation. If you’ve hired professional movers, you’re already on the right track — but there are a few key things you should do before they show up to keep everything running smoothly.
1. Finish Packing (Unless You’ve Requested Help)
If your movers aren’t packing your belongings, make sure everything is boxed up, sealed, and labeled by the night before. Movers can’t transport loose items or open containers safely.
2. Clear Walkways and Driveways
Make sure there’s a clear path from your home to the moving truck. Remove rugs, low-hanging decor, or any obstacles that could cause tripping or slow the crew down. If possible, reserve parking close to your home for the truck.
3. Keep Essentials Separate
Set aside a bag with items you’ll need immediately, like toiletries, chargers, medications, and important documents. Mark it clearly and let your movers know not to load it on the truck.
4. Unplug Appliances
If you’re taking any large appliances, make sure they’re disconnected, cleaned out, and dry. Defrost your refrigerator at least 24 hours in advance.
5. Communicate Clearly
Walk your movers through your home and let them know what’s going and what’s staying. Be available for any questions during the move.
By taking a little time to prep before the movers arrive, you’ll save time, reduce stress, and help ensure your moving day goes off without a hitch. For more tips, contact Heartland Moving — we’re here to help every step of the way.
